Werner Herzog on images, TV, and shoes

Clips from Les Blank's classic 1980 short, "Werner Herzog Eats His Shoe." The film documents Herzog fulfilling a bet he made with Errol Morris: if Morris would finish his brilliant first feature "Gates of Heaven," Herzog said he would eat his shoe. He uses this public stunt to say some very serious things about American pop culture, filmmakers becoming "clowns" to promote their work, and the culture of images (or lack thereof). Clips like these can be found at the new Media Funhouse blog, which offers clips, reviews, a guide to YouTube and other sites, as well as everything in pop culture "from high art to low trash, and back again..." www.mediafunhouse.blogspot.com

I love you Herzog. You make my German classes feel worthwhile.

Word. I agree on that. a hypocrite he is. But then again I really like Herzog. Hes a likeable guy (have u seen when he gets shot) and he's completely cool with that? lol. He talks too much about politics but then again Germans are very intellectual ppl.

I'm a great follower of Herzog (right now I'm writing a paper on his treatment of morality), but I find it strange how he denounces talkshows, but appeared on Conan O'Brien recently.

I'm with Herzog, kill the tv!

KFC? I thought Herzog had a phobia of chickens, something he alludes to in his films.

I've been a fan of Herzog sense seeing Aguirre, Wrath of God in film school. It blew me away. Ya it's great to see him getting more attention as a great artist in his later yrs, but he doesn't need or want the pop cultural media's love and affection. McCain a maverick? I think not. Werner? Now there's a true maverick! Everyone knows Obama most likely is familiar with Herzog, or at least has heard of him. McCain doesn;t have a clue or a care who Herzog is. Vote for art funding! Vote Obama!!!!!!!

it's pretty awesome how many people have learned about herzog from conan. when i saw the show, i got the impression that everyone was completely alienated by him...

I was glad to see Wener Herzog on Conan because, as I see from the comments, it made at least a little more people aware of him. I first learned of Herzog when I was in 8th grade (that was not too long ago i might add, no joke) when I first saw My Best Fiend. However anytime I tried to introduce him to one of my friends or just someone I knew they either thought I was crazy, boring, or just didn't listen to me. I'm glad Conan was able to do it but then again Conan is awesome. :)
